I thought it was a little quiet around here, and in all honesty, I’ve not really had a lot of comments in the past, so I thought it might be normal.
Turns out one of the many many many recent updates to one of the WordPress plugins I use here broke the comments feature, and the software couldn’t be bothered to tell me!
“This piece of the blog is generating copious errors, I thought you’d like to know” would have been enough. 😉
A big thanks to leighway from the QB for letting me know that there was an issue that made me decide to investigate.
The problem that occurred would have looked like this:
- You click in the “Leave a Reply” box, and proceed to type up your message.
- When you’re finished, you click “Post Comment”, then the dreaded “ERROR” appears. Something about not providing the right captcha code. And of course, your comment goes into neverland. How rude!
- But wait, what code?
And therein lies the problem. There was no captcha code for you to enter! I’ve made a change to the software to get around it for now. The captcha won’t appear still, but it won’t check for it either.
Comments of course will have to be moderated as a result, but I filter nothing other than porn and spammers.
I will update this post if I find a proper fix, or I find out that captcha or WP have fixed the issue. I suspect captcha, so I will report the issue this week.
In the meantime, chat amongst yourselves. 🙂 And please accept my apologies. I wasn’t being rude on purpose!
