I read this in an “old” Serger book this week again. I read it probably about a year or so ago, and needed the information today. I thought it was a good enough tip to warrant publishing here to help everyone out.
From ABCs of Serging by Tammy Young and Lori Bottom:
A comment in the book, made by Sue Green-Baker
Check for blade sharpness by serging a scrap of nylon tricot. Dull cutting edges won’t cut tricot at all.
I guess I’m putting tricot on my shopping list for my next trip into town. 🙂
I haven’t read a lot of serging books, but this one is definitely one of the best I’ve seen especially for beginners. It’s dated, but the tips in it are very valuable, even with a modern machine.
The other favorite is the Singer book, Sewing with an Overlock. (Or their updated version – The new sewing with a serger. Same content, newer pictures.)
If anyone’s interested, I have 2 extra copies of the Singer book. Just leave a comment below (make sure you leave some sort of contact info) and I’ll get a copy of the book to you.
How about you? What are some of your favorite sewing reference books?
