Socialite – AA gets social!

Today, while perusing the site stats, I noticed that we’re suddenly getting a ton of hits from Facebook, Twitter and other sharing places.

A great big “Welcome!” to our new readers!!  This is so exciting!  I’m a closet introvert, but I just love that what I’m talking about is important to you, and I look forward to your comments and our discussions!

I humbly thank you very much for sharing this site with your friends.

Greased Lightning – Singer motor lube in Canada

Update 06-30-2016:  The latest batch of Singer Lube I received from the supplier is no longer suitable for use in Singer motors.  As such, I’m recommending the use of Petroleum jelly.

People far smarter than me are recommending it and White Sewing machine motors of the same time period used it.

Over the last few months, I’ve been hearing that Singer Lube / Lubricant / Motor Lube (S2129)  is getting really hard to find, especially here in Canada. This has been my experience as a consumer as well.  Walmart used to carry it, but no longer.  I believe that it may have been at Fabricland at one point.  Also, no longer.  With the loss of the Singer store in Edmonton, there were no longer any options I was aware of in my area. No Comment – found a “bug” on the blog, my apologies!

I thought it was a little quiet around here, and in all honesty, I’ve not really had a lot of comments in the past, so I thought it might be normal.

Turns out one of the many many many recent updates to one of the WordPress plugins I use here broke the comments feature, and the software couldn’t be bothered to tell me!

“This piece of the blog is generating copious errors, I thought you’d like to know” would have been enough. 😉

A big thanks to leighway from the QB for letting me know that there was an issue that made me decide to investigate.

The problem that occurred would have looked like this:

  • You click in the “Leave a Reply” box, and proceed to type up your message.
  • When you’re finished, you click “Post Comment”, then the dreaded “ERROR” appears.  Something about not providing the right captcha code. And of course, your comment goes into neverland.  How rude!
  • But wait, what code?

And therein lies the problem.   There was no captcha code for you to enter!  I’ve made a change to the software to get around it for now.  The captcha won’t appear still, but it won’t check for it either.

Comments of course will have to be moderated as a result, but I filter nothing other than porn and spammers.

I will update this post if I find a proper fix, or I find out that captcha or WP have fixed the issue.   I suspect captcha, so I will report the issue this week.

In the meantime, chat amongst yourselves. 🙂   And please accept my apologies.  I wasn’t being rude on purpose!

Where’s that post from last week?

I made a few changes to the site in the last week or so.

  • I changed the Pinterest plugin we were using, because the new one offers a lot more and better functionality.
  • I did a little clean up on the articles, so you don’t have to scroll as much when browsing the posts.
  • I made a few security related changes, in response to the brute force attack currently going on against WordPress sites all over the world.   Continue reading Where’s that post from last week?

I am so flattered!

I wanted to just take a quick moment out to say thank you to everyone who reads this blog.  I’ve been seeing things being pinned on Pinterest from my posts on the Quilting Board and from Archaic Arcane directly over the last few days.

I post about the things I do to hopefully benefit the community as a whole.   Seeing people pinning and linking to the QB and to Archaic Arcane so that others can come visit and hopefully I can help them out shows me that you find what I’m doing to be of value.

From the bottom of my heart:  THANK YOU!  It’s so great to know that I’m not just talking to myself.  🙂
